GOLDEN MASK FESTIVAL in St. Petersburg

From 16 September till 8 October, 2009

The Festival “Golden Mask in St. Petersburg” will take place in autumn 2009 presenting to the Northern capital of Russia some of the most interesting productions made in the last five years.

St. Petersburg theatre companies are regular participants of the Golden Mask Festivals and frequent Golden Mask winners. The names of Valery Gergiev, Lev Dodin, Kirill Lavrov, Alisa Freindlikh, Uliana Lopatkina, Valery Fokin, to name just a few, are a valuable possession of the Festival. In 2003 in connection with the city’s 300th anniversary, the main (competition) programme of the Golden Mask Festival took place in St. Petersburg. The city became a hospitable host for the Festival, the companies from various Russian cities and towns felt very much at home at the venues, and the productions were warmly received by the St. Petersburg audience. “Golden Mask in St. Petersburg” can boast an impressive programme of Golden Mask nominees and winners of the recent years. Apart from the performance, the festival will include professional meetings, master-classes and discussions tackling topical issues of today’s theatre.
