About Russian Case
In 2019 the Showcase celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The Russian Case traditionally presents premieres of the previous season nominated for the Golden Mask Award and also some of the most interesting premiers of the current season. The program is selected by highly reputed theatre critics.
The Russian Case organizers aim to present a program that demonstrates the trends in Russian theatre to specialists from all over the world. The Russian Case is the place for dialogue between Russian and world theatre; it provides a space for creative interaction and professional exchange.
In practical terms, the Russian Case has led to collaborations between Russian and foreign theatres and festivals, as well as international press coverage and articles being published in magazines and theatre journals. Russian productions are invited to international theatre festivals, and theatre directors are invited to stage outside of Russia; contemporary Russian plays get translated and performed in other countries. For the Golden Mask organizers, an important outcome of the Russian Case is the development of collaborations with international partners aimed to present the best of Russian theatre in other countries.
Being aware of the serious situation with respect to the spread of Covid-19 in the world which makes it impossible to plan events even for the near future, we nevertheless try to stay optimistic and hope that we all will be able to get back to our normal activities. We want to believe that the Russian Case will take place in 2021 as planned, perhaps in some new format.
With this hope we have fixed the dates for Russian Case-2021 for April 1-6.
This year the showcase is curated by Marina Davydova, theatre researcher, theatre director, editor-in-chief of the TEATR magazine and art director of the NEТ festival. Marina has already started programming.
