This is an object- and puppet- performance made by hand and by imagination of young artists who build on a table a whole world and an entire epoch with its beginning and end. Inspired by Marc Chagall’s paintings and his ability to look at the world from a bird’s eye view, and without losing sight of the most everyday details, the creators of WALK IN THE DARK have composed a story from hand-made materials, turning them into cities, carousels and landscapes devastated by war. The story is seen through the eyes of a hero, who remembers his life from the moment of his birth to his first love and his wedding, to the inevitable end. Together with him, the audience crosses space and time in order to look intently at the most important moments in his life imprinted in the fanciful human memory. These “pictures” are connected with a specific sound background that guides us from the sad to the ridiculous, from the touching to the terrible. The production WALK IN THE DARK is one of the first events to take place at this recently opened venue in Moscow, which is located in a historical district and has become the centre of young artists’ initiatives as well as educational programmes.
