Vladimir Mirzoev


Vladimir Mirzoev, theatre and film director and stage designer was born in 1957. Graduated from the Moscow Teacher`s Institute and in 1976 entered the chair of directing of the Russian Academy of Theatre Art (GITIS), the workshop of Mark Mestechkin.

In 1987 - 1989 he was artistic leader of the Domino theatre –studio at the Artistic Workshops of the Russian Theatre Union.

In 1990 Mirzoev founded a theatre company Horizontal Eight in Toronto, Canada, where he staged THE PROPOSAL and THE BEAR by Anton Chekhov; CALIGULA by Albert Camus and SALOME by Oscar Wilde.

He gave master classes and taught courses at the University of Michigan, Toronto University and the York Unviresity in Toronto.

At the Vakhtangov Theatre directed AMPHITRYON by Molière; Rostand’s CYRANO DE BERGERAC; LEAR based on William Shakespeare; DON JUAN AND SGANARELLE based on Molière`s DON JUAN; PRINCESS IVONA based on Witold Gombrowicz`s IVONA, PRINCESS OF BURGUNDIA; BETRAYAL by Harold Pinter.

Also worked at the Teatrium on Serpukhovka Theatre where he staged THE DRAGON by Evgeny Schwartz; at the Lenkom Theatre: THE HIGH DAY by Olga Mikhailova; TWO WOMEN based on Ivan Turgenev`s A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY; at the Stanislavsky Drama Theatre: MARRIAGE by Nikolai Gogol; THE STRONGER by August Strindberg; KHLESTAKOV based on Nikolai Gogol`s THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR; THE DOVES by Mikhail Ugarov; TWELFTH NIGHT by William Shakespeare; THE TAMING OF THE SHREW by William Shakespeare.

Vladimir Mirzoev has staged over 20 productions within the Independent Theatre Project.
